Easter In Calpe – Semana Santa 11th – 16th April 2017
The Easter Event or Holy Week is celebrated throughout Spain, it is held in the old town of Calpe and a lot of people don’t know it takes place, it’s a fantastic event with amazing costumes and is definitely worth a visit over the week.
It starts from 11th April and continues through to Sunday 16th April the costumes and outfits are spectacular and colourful and all the processions are held in the old town.
Below is a list of the processions take place:
Palm – Domingo de Ramos
11.00 Blessing of the palms, which is held in the Ermita del Salvador by the Palm Procession to the church (Iglesia).
Holy Wednesday – Miercoles Santo
2100 Procession of the Cofradia del Cristo de las Tres Caidas.
Holy Thursday 13th April Jueves Santo
2100 Procession of the Cofradia de Jesus Nazareno.
Good Friday 14th April Viernes Santo
0900 Via Crucis procession (Stations of the cross prosession) up to the Ermita.
2000 Procession of Entombment
Holy Saturday 15th April – Sabado Santo
Easter Vigil begins in the cemetery after which the resurrection is celebrated in the church (Iglesia).
Easter Sunday 16th April Domingo de Pascua
1100 Procession of the meeting of Senor Resucitado and the Virgen from the Plaza de San Salvador to the church (Iglesia) for mass.
